Hi Guys
Well a 2390 case doesn't seem like an antique tractor but it is almost 30 years old!
My brother is having trouble with the Hydraulics and steering on his 2390 Case tractor.
Here is what is happening and what we have tried:
It started with no main hydraulic.
Tried the compensator and seemed to work again. Then it quit again and the Compensator wasn't stuck.
So He changed the hydraulic pump with a used one ( with the steering pump attached). We have had the filter housing apart and the charge pump. (charge pump is worn a little but not bad enough not to work at all) Took the PTO out and the side cover and cleaned the suction screen.
Trans press light comes on at idle and goes out about 1500 rpm. tried bleeding system at all the lines. Check the drive gears all seems good. Ran the steering pump into a pail and got about 6 gallons in minute at idle. Ran the main pump into a pail and had plenty of oil.
Trans doesn't stall out in any of the power shift gears and doesn't seem to change steering or main hydraulic by shifting the power shift.
Tried driving it and applying brake pressure. It loaded down the engine in all three power shift positions.
Had the PTO and regulating valve apart but didn't see anything wrong.
Tried hooking the pump directly to the main hydraulic valves with a connector and eliminating any oil that would be going to the transmission from the PTO and regulating valve. But didn't have anything then.
Hooked a gauge to the coupler and put lever in float and started tractor to test charge pump pressure but didn't have any.
I am open to suggestions!
HELP!
The dealers say 'don't even bother to bring it in.....The bill will be more than the tractor is worth!'

My hydraulics are really slow almost nonexsistant but when the tractor warms up they are usuable but slow and 'jerky'. The current temperature there is 32 degrees. If it was this cold (or colder) when you noticed the problem, I'm willing to bet that you have some moisture in your hydraulic fluid.
